Our vision, goals and values

We're the UK's largest national charity dedicated to improving bone health and beating osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis causes bones to lose strength and break more easily. Half of women and one in five men over the age of 50 will break a bone as a result. In the UK, a bone is broken every minute because of osteoporosis, causing pain, fear and isolation.

Yet osteoporosis is often described as the 'silent condition' because it is under-diagnosed, under-treated and poorly understood. The Royal Osteoporosis Society is breaking this silence.

Our vision

No More Broken Bones. No More Broken Lives

Our goals

To achieve our vision, we focus on three key goals:

1) Help people at high risk prevent broken bones

We work to improve awareness, identify those at risk earlier and help people take action to protect their bone health.

2) Achieve quicker diagnosis and better ongoing care, wherever people live

We campaign for better services and support healthcare professionals to ensure people receive high-quality osteoporosis care, wherever they live.

3) Support people to live well with osteoporosis

We provide trusted information, expert support and practical resources to help people manage their condition with confidence.

Our values

Our values guide everything we do.

We’re Bold

We fearlessly stand up for and give a voice to people who need us.

We’re Focused

We concentrate on where we can make the biggest difference.

We’re Collaborative

We work as one team and embrace partners to create change together.

We have Integrity

People can trust us to do what we say we will.

Hear from people affected by osteoporosis

Behind every statistic is a person whose life has been changed by osteoporosis.

In the videos below, Ann and Georgina share their experiences of living with the condition. Ann's life changed in an instant when she broke a bone while simply picking up her kettle to make a cup of tea. She describes the excruciating pain she experienced, the fear of breaking another bone and the impact osteoporosis has had on her mental health.

Stories like these remind us why our work matters. Through research, support services, campaigning and public awareness, we're working towards a future with no more broken bones and no more broken lives.

With the support of our donors, we can continue to power life-changing research, help people get diagnosed and treated sooner, and ensure more people receive the support they need after diagnosis.
