There are lots of things you can do to keep your bones healthy.
What can I do to reduce my chance of osteoporosis?
It's never too early or too late to start looking after your bones. Knowing your risk factors can help you identify anything you can do or change to help protect your bones.
If you do not have osteoporosis
Think about any changes you could make to help keep your bones healthy. This includes:
a well-balanced diet with enough calcium rich foods
safe sunlight exposure to get enough vitamin D. Or take a vitamin D supplement
regular exercise to strengthen your bones. The best types of exercise for your bones are strength training and impact training
avoiding smoking
not drinking too much alcohol.
If you have osteoporosis
If you are taking an osteoporosis medicine:
take your osteoporosis medicine as your doctor has prescribed it for you. If you have side effects that are hard to manage, talk to your doctor. You may be able to try a different medicine
